The Smallest motherboard by VIA
VIA Technologies has announced a new motherboard form factor of Mobile-ITX which has a size of 6×6 cm and it is half in size than its elder sister Pico-ITX and freely placed on the palm. Presented sample was built at the VIA VX800 chipset running CPU VIA C7M with frequency of 1 or 1.2 GHz. In addition to the integrated video this card is equipped with 8-channel sound card and two GB of DDR2 RAM.
The developers suggest to use the Mobile-ITX as a complex with a subsidiary of interface card which will determine the final specifications of the manufacturer depending on the destination of manufactured devices. Modular solution promises to facilitate the partners VIA testing new devices and will save on their own motherboard design.
Mobile-ITX is able to support all types of monitors and it supports IDE, USB 2.0 and PCI Express. The power consumption is about 5 Watts. This fact combined with the Mobile-ITX withstand vibration up to 5g involves a wide range of new items – from medical devices to automobiles. Production of the first commercial sample board is scheduled for the first quarter of 2010.
