Google prepares to launch a new TV search engine
Internet company Google completes testing of new TV search engine. As developers say, search engine Google will be installed on the set-top boxes and satellite providers will search for video content. However, until now it has been limited to relatively few people – mostly, Google employees and their families.
TV search service – a joint project between Google and Dish Network, the second largest provider of satellite TV in the U.S.. About the new search engine is known, in particular, that it is designed to work on set-top boxes using the Android operating system from Google. It allows users to find a network provider Dish various content and search videos from online services such as YouTube. In addition, when using this search engine, users can create their own personalized list of video content.
The technology: search words are entered in the search box in television by remote control or keyboard. In the future, Google hopes to connect the service to its own service on television advertising, to demonstrate to subscribers of satellite and cable television-targeted advertising based on their search queries and concerns to the video content. Meanwhile, the first attempt to combine Internet services with TV services were not too successful.
Much of this was the reason that users had to purchase additional equipment for these new applications. However, working with such providers like Dish directly, Google can avoid such problems by integrating their services in the software of these companies. For the very same internet giant test of the service – one of the attempts to move beyond online advertising, which remains the main source of revenue.
Also, it should be noted that while cooperation with Dish, Google is also negotiating with many other television service providers and developers of equipment for this market. The subject of these negotiations – the integration of development based on the Google Android operating system in a TV-top boxes and other devices.
